What is Feng Huang Dan Cong (Pheonix Wu Long)?
Fruity, floral, tannic, and super aromatic, Feng Huang Dan Cong (also known as Phoenix Oolong Tea) has such pleasant and showy qualities unparalleled by any other kind of loose leaf tea. These qualities have led it to become one of the most popular Wu Longs (Oolong) on the market.
History of Dong Fang Hong
Origin: Shi Tou Jiao, Wu Dong, Feng Huang Shan (Phoenix Mountain), Chao Zhou, Guang Dong Province, China (~700-800m elevation)
In 1958 a batch of tea was sent to Chairman Mao for him to taste and was named Dong Fang Hong thereafter, which means Eastern Red. This tea is set apart from regular Song Zhong with its significantly more elegant texture and airier aroma while maintaining the cultivars’ signature woodsy note.
Masterful Crafting
Long story short, it’s hard for woodsy cultivars to taste clean instead of musky and stale. This Dong Fang Hong is a masterpiece for its tender, clean, tranquil delivery of earthy notes with a hint of floweriness and an ultra-long finish.
Tasting The 2020 Vintage
This vintage is woodsy and floral like an elegantly extended branch of a plum blossom.
